The Robotomunculi series is based on the ancient alchemical notion of the homunculus (the robots are added as a contemporary comparison). Prior to the Renaissance, prints had power and use beyond their contemporary roll. They were used as guides, manuals, and magic talismans. I always try to incorporate a function (actual or imagined) in my prints, in order to give them a purpose beyond their aesthetic roll. The ritualistic reproduction of printed multiples is particularly appropriate to that end. Specifically, these prints are designed as protective talismans, and contain symbols of protectors, and things in need of protection.
